Walking Routes beginning at Drop-Off points
You can choose from seven drop off points and the subsequent walks back to Ballade des Pins are outlined below. The cost of a drop off is always 8 euros per person except for Soubes, which is 5 euros per person.
Soubes: There are two established walks here - the ’Sentier Botanique’ for lovers of flaura and fauna, and ’Les Capitelles.’ Both are about 2 kms long.
The return walk home can be straightforward - about one hour (5kms) or you can take the scenic route via Fozieres and le Therondel (about two hours) or another route via Vinas which takes about an hour and a half. There is a café/restogrill in Soubes.
Le Caylar: An enchanting five hour or so (approximately 20 kms) walk down the mountain which allows you to fully appreciate the diverse nature of the landscape. Optional additional walk to La Couvertoirade for the super fit.
St-Pierre-de-la-Fage: The lovely La Roque walk with stunning views of the Breze valley and the ’Cirque du Bout du Monde’ throughout this spectacular descent (about 15 kms). Lower down takes you on the ’Camin Farrat,’ an ancient walkway - one of the oldest routes on the Larzac. Lunch can be taken at the Soubes Restogrill if desired.
Saint-Baudille: The longest (about six hours) and most demanding route because of a 300 metre ascent mid-way and a couple of quite steep sections en route. Stunning views, pine forests and the villages of St Privat, Les Salces and Fozieres make this a marvellous day’s hike. Or -
-Les Salces: From here the Saint-Baudille walk is a little easier at three or so kilometres less and with the steepest sections omitted.
St Jean-de-la Blaquiere: A lovely walk (about four and a half hours) through the very heart of the region. The village of St Jean-de-la Blaquiere is charming and has a café and you will also pass Usclas-du-Bosc, an ancient Dolmen, the Grandmont Priory (snack bar), and Soumont with its twelfth century church.
Lake Salagou: Various walking possibilities around the lake and a scenic walk home.
